11th July 2026 – “What is the Parent’s Dysregulation Protecting?” presented by Kuljit Daliwal

July 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Hello all,

We are looking forward to our upcoming professional development presentation which will be held on Saturday 11th July 2026 from 11:00am to 12:30pm

CV Presents:

“What is the Parent’s Dysregulation Protecting? Moving from parent coaching to parent formulation”

In clinical work, we formulate the child. We educate the parent. Why?
This 90-minute reflective workshop invites counsellors to reconsider how they understand parent dysregulation in therapeutic work. When a child becomes dysregulated, clinicians often become curious about attachment, trauma, sensory needs, unmet needs and nervous system activation. Yet when a parent becomes dysregulated, we may quickly move into education, strategies or coaching. This workshop asks counsellors to pause before intervening and consider a different clinical question:

What is this parent’s dysregulation protecting?
Through brief but reflective discussion, clinical formulation and shared practice wisdom, participants will explore parent dysregulation as a protective adaptation shaped by nervous system activation, attachment experiences, core beliefs, fear, shame and relational history. Rather than offering another set of parenting strategies, this workshop creates space for counsellors to think deeply about the parent behind the behaviour and how our own responses as therapists may also become part of the clinical picture.
